Howard Huskies of Ohio Join GDFL
Cleveland,OH-The State of Ohio has been a staple for football and has had a presence in the Gridiron Developmental Football League (GDFL) since our inception.
On today we are pleased to announce the continuance of this tradition with the addition of the Howard Huskies Football Organization based in Cleveland, Ohio.
The Howard Huskies, formerly the Cleveland Patriots was founded four years ago by Dennis Briggs. Enter Mrs. Veronica Howard who step in mid-season of the teams first season of existence and has been an instrumental part of Patriots success. Since the tragic death of her son in 2011 she has taken her organization in a new direction and has become a platform for the young men in her community to escape the violence that plaques their streets.
The objective of the organization is to promote sponsor and advance national developmental football competition among young men with a focus towards individuals who have experienced distress, poverty and barriers to societal re-entry.
Mrs. Howard stated,”it is our Mission to Build Character while saving lives”.
Mrs. Howard has developed a quality program under the coaching direction of her husband of 31 years Coach James Howard.
Coach Howard coached at Lake Erie College and Normandy High School. He coached Travis and Jason Kelce at Cleveland Heights High School. Travis would go on to play tight end for the Kansas City Chiefs of the National Football League. He was drafted by the Chiefs in the third round of the 2013 NFL Draft. He is a three-time Pro Bowler, two-time All-Pro, and was ranked 26th by his fellow players, and second among tight ends, on the NFL Top 100 Players of 2017. Jason, went on to sign with the Philadelphia Eagles of the National Football League. He plays center. Jason was drafted by the Eagles in the sixth round of the 2011 NFL Draft. Jason is a Super Bowl champion, two-time Pro-Bowler and was selected to the 2017 First Team All-Pro.
Coach Howard is supported by assistant Coach Zack Fitch who also acts as Offensive Coordinator, he has been loyal and dedicated to the Huskies Organization for 3 years
