PREVIEW: ALABAMA (HUNTSVILLE ROCKETS) VS KENTUCKY SPARTANS
Huntsville, Alabama-The 3rd ranked Huntsville Rockets look to start the season off with a bang this weekend as they take on the new and upcoming Kentucky Spartans. “The first couple of games are always a challenge for us for a variety of reasons” stated Head Coach Nick Benjamin.
“A lot of guys are coming off of Spring seasons and some are even still in the playoffs in their respective leagues”.
The Rockets will be returning a host of talent from last years roster including Defensive Leaders MalcolmBrooks,Thomas Sims, and leading Wide Receiver Bejuan Clack. They are also looking to fill a few voids on the Offensive side of the ball, mainly at Quarterback.
“There are a few guys that have shown promise to lead the Offense and we are looking forward to seeing what the future holds”, said Benjamin.
The Rockets have shown a lot of promise the past few years but have yet to get over the hump of winning the GDFL crown. The Southern Region has two newcomers this year, the Kentucky Spartans, and the Knoxville Grizzlies. Both teams look to take on the Rockets in 2024.
This week’s contest will be interesting for both teams. The Kentucky Spartans are coming off of a 24-0 loss to the Knoxville Grizzlies to kick off the season and are looking to get back on track this week against the Rockets.
The Rockets are always looking to bring a physical defense to the field, but this year will, they will also be looking to find their offensive identity. “On order for us to continue to be successful as an organization, we must put the pieces together on offense. That will be the focus at the beginning of the season.”
The Rockets will face the Kentucky Spartans this weekend to kick off the 2024 season at Bob Jones High School in Madison, AL. Kickoff is at 7:00pm.
